IMA machines are known for their robustness. A well-maintained IMA Advantage or IMA Bima can remain in production for 20 years or more – provided the right parts are replaced in a timely manner. Here are the most important maintenance points.
Glue unit: the heart of the edge banding machine
The glue application system is the most frequently maintained component of any edge banding machine. For IMA machines, special attention should be paid to:
Glue roller and counter roller
Baked-on glue leads to uneven application. Regular cleaning with the correct solvent (type depends on the glue used) and visual inspection for scratches and grooves.
Heating elements and thermostats
IMA glue units operate with precise temperature control. Defective heating elements lead to cold glue and immediate production disruption. It is advisable to keep a spare heating rod in stock.
Glue feed and hose system
For granule glue feed (hotmelt), hoses and connectors should be regularly checked for cracks and deposits.
Milling units: bearings and tool holders
The milling units of the IMA Advantage are high-quality and durable. Nevertheless, bearings and tool holders must be regularly checked:
– Runout check: Deviations over 0.02 mm indicate bearing wear
– Tool collets: Worn collets lead to poor milling quality
– Protective covers: Check plastic discs during each machine maintenance
IMA machines from the Advantage and Bima series operate with proprietary or Siemens controls. Keep the following in mind:
– Control cards and circuit boards: Old electronics tend to malfunction with temperature fluctuations
– Touchscreen: Check calibration, replace if necessary
– Wiring harness: Pay particular attention to chafing on moving machine parts
