One of the most common questions in machine operation: Are original spare parts from the manufacturer worthwhile, or can cheaper alternative parts be used without hesitation? The answer is not black or white – it largely depends on the specific component.
When original parts are the better choice
Safety-relevant components
For anything related to machine safety – safety switches, safety relays, emergency stop components – original parts or certified equivalents should always be used. No compromises should be made here.
Precision components with tight tolerances
Tool holders (HSK, ISO), collets, and glue rollers with very tight dimensional tolerances should be sourced in original quality. Slight deviations can lead to quality loss or increased wear.
Electronics and control boards
Original control cards are expensive from Homag and IMA – but installing uncertified replacement boards can lead to subsequent problems that quickly eat up the money saved.
When alternative parts make sense
Pressure rollers, belts, bearings, seals, and filters are often available as quality alternative parts. These parts are manufactured according to DIN/ISO standards and are technically equivalent to original parts – but significantly cheaper.
Older machines without original part availability
For machines 15 years or older, many original parts are no longer manufactured. Here, alternative parts or used original parts are often the only option. An experienced dealer can help find compatible replacement solutions.
Pure wear parts without impact on precision
Protective screens, plastic covers, rubber profiles, and similar parts can easily be sourced as inexpensive alternatives.
Combine: Originals for safety- and precision-relevant parts, quality alternatives for standard wear. We carry both in our assortment – and help you make the right decision for your specific machine.
