Stretch wrapping machines are indispensable in modern packaging lines. However, the selection is vast, and not every machine suits every product. The two most important basic types are the horizontal wrapper (also called an orbital wrapper) and the pallet wrapper. We explain which type is suitable for which application.
The Horizontal Wrapper – for long goods and profiles
A horizontal wrapper wraps the product by means of a rotating ring through which the workpiece is guided. The product moves – the ring rotates. This technology is ideal for:
– Wooden strips, boards, panels
– Aluminum and PVC profiles
– Doors, window frames, blinds
– Assembly furniture and shelving units
– Plastic pipes and cable ducts
Well-known representatives of this category are the Dynawrap Joy series and Pro series. They offer ring diameters from 450 mm to 1,700 mm, making them suitable for a wide range of products. The advantage: The product is protected all around without having to be set up or turned.
The Pallet Wrapper – for palletized goods
A pallet wrapper wraps pallets with stretch film. Either the pallet rotates on a turntable (as with the Robopac Rotoplat), or a rotating arm moves around the stationary pallet. Areas of application:
– Shipping centers and warehouses
– Manufacturing companies with pallet output
– Food, beverage, and chemical logistics
– Construction suppliers and wholesalers
The choice depends on the pallet shape, weight, and throughput. Semi-automatic models such as the Robopac Rotoplat 505 PFS are suitable for medium quantities, while fully automatic in-line systems are for high throughput.
Combined solutions for complex requirements
For companies that need to package both long goods and pallets, there are combined solutions or the option of operating both types of machines side-by-side. In some cases, horizontal wrappers can also be used for short, wide products – provided the ring diameter is large enough.
In short: Long goods and profiles → horizontal wrapper. Pallets and cartons on pallets → pallet wrapper. For mixed requirements, individual consultation is recommended. We are happy to help you find the right machine for your specific application.
